looking for a cheap channel cat rod that I can also use for striper and drifting for walleye at erie. just like 12lb test or maybe small braid and abu 5600s
just wondering if they would work.
Looking at the 7ft Medium action. have no experience with them but can get for under 20bucks and thats the range I want to stay in

I had one a while back very stiff, I bought a combo with a tidewater reel at Bass Pro For like $62.00. I gave it to my nephew. I matched 2 Ugly Stik Catfish Rods with my 2 5600c4's using 30lb Big Game. I like these a lot, I have caught blues in the 40's and 50's in open water. Believe it or not I landed the 58lb Flathead in my Avatar on one of them in open water. It took me 20 minutes to wear him down. For $10 more dollars at 30 bucks you can't beat the Ugly Cat Rods they are very visible at night.

thanks guys. I appreciate the input. i think i am just going to go with a shakespeare wildcat.
Yea I hear good things about those rods chuck. I think those are the ones sean swears by. I just am not going to spend 30 on a rod that will not be seeing a whole lot of water time. I only make a few lake erie trips a year. i will use them there for channels and walleye. and for stripers which i do only a few times a year too. the wildcats are like 15 bucks. that is more my style for a multi species rod

I have 4 for flathead definitely too heavy for channels. But they make a fine flathead rod for dropping baits long distance.

They are perfect channel cat rods....wouldn't even think about using any other rod for channels. There not heavy so you can cast and drift floats all day long...or you can set them in a rod holder and watch em load up. They have a fair amount of power for thier weight and size. Love those rods. Ive got 2 over 30lbs on mine. My big cat rods are big cats.... lol. Sent from my SCH-I545 using proboards

Yea, I wasn't targeting them on the medium tackle. I just happens sometimes. I can have two big rigs out with big baits. And a couple medium rigs with small baits and you know the smaller ones get slammed. I had 20lb Big Game on them until recently. It is so much fun fighting a big fish on medium tackle. I have been broken off on structure plenty of times not being able to move a fish or them ripping drag on the 5600's but it is sooooo much fun. They will bend double all the way to the handle and never even had one slinter. I use them as my striper poles also. Talking about fun.
