I Have been stuck in the 30's for a long time now and I really thought this one was going to get me over 40#. Well objects in the kayak may appear larger than they are 38 pounds 42" way healthier than my other flatheads 40-42 inches long. But not the 50#s I was thinking when his head first popped up next to the kayak. Not all that impressive of a personal best after 15 years but I'll take some style points for doing it in the Kayak. I have been thinking about that fight since the day I got the kayak and it was awesome. But I always pictured it with this big fish out ahead of me pulling me miles down the river. Instead I was in a 30ft deep slack water with trees and old RR bridge scraps in the bottom. So I was on top of him and he wanted to go strait down. At one point I was trying to decide if this fish was worth going down with the ship and loosing all my gear. That thought didn't last long and I opened up a can of woop@ss on him, after 30 minutes we were spooning in the Yak. Weighed, Photoed, and Released. My last PB was out of the same hole and so was my buddies that was 45-50#s. I am shock this place still produces. I looks like an epic flathead spot but it gets fished daily by lots of people. And most of those people dont seem like the type to let fish go.

How many of those guys that fish it know what they are doing......how many are tossing live gills? And how many are tossing livers, nightcralwers, etc? It just may be that they arent fished for in the right way.
Ill take one half that size in the yak.....and be perfectly happy. Well done.
Oh yeah.....should I be stocking up on extra greenies for this weeekend? My plans to catfish 2 nights. ...let me know if you wanna work something out. Ive got a few creeks to fish.....but id turn them down for the big river.

Nice job! A half hour fight is a realy long time, even in a kayak I never would guess it would take that long. Most of my 40 lb Plus fishfights have been caught in less than 10 minutes.

I fish some heavily fished areas quite a bit and pull fish out of them because of this same reason. Nice fish and congrats on the PB!
