Well im 8 months into my year internship at the plant and in January I will take over as superintendent. Which means 2 things....1 I will have a ton of responsibility, and 2 my salary will nearly triple. Im 24 with no monetary responsibilities so that means toys.... lots of toys ;D. This Spring I was looking at boat but decided to go with kayaks instead. Which has been a great experience. I have covered more water this year than I ever did in my jon boat. Kayaks are great but im not 100 percent sure I wanna do all my catfishing from them. Hard to sleep in a yak. they arent very comfortable for those 10 hour plus outings. So after some research I think I have a good idea of what kind of boat/ hull I want. Now my problem lies in the motor. Id like a jet to run some local skinny water but im not sure if id like it on the big water like the ohio river. Im really trying to weigh my options. Id like to hear what you guys think about jet motors vs. prop driven motors. Anyone have experience with tunnel hull prop boats? Im not real concerned with top speed to be honest. If I do 30mph im good. And don't worry Russ......you'll have a seat reserved. Sent from my SCH-I545 using proboards

a lot of guys I know run tunnel hull jets,a few things I don't like about them is there hard on gas and second is they don't like trash like grass and leaves, and on big water with some rough water they beat you to pieces.but if I was fishing more rocky water then deep water a jet is the ticket it will get you into some tight places

Dont you remember our trip with luckeywade? Lol I ran randys jet for a couple years and loved it but I really love my prop for big water. After my few trips with my boat this year im set on the prop. I feel theres bigger and more quality fish on the big water! That being said I feel a prop would suit the fishing you do best.

When we cut across the 3 footers the last time I thought we were going down for sure. Randy is one brave man. I kinda set my mind on a prop already but I wanted to see if someone could convince me otherwise. To be honest I dont think I have the balls to run a jet up the scioto at summer pool anyway.....add darkness and fog in the late fall and it could get rough. Some of those stories you and randy told me were pretty bad too. Bobby that sounds about right. The water we have down here is as diverse as you can find in ohio. So im going yo have to sacrafice one or the other. Jet and go shallow and get beaten to death on the big water. Or go prop and leave the shallows for kayaks. Sent from my SCH-I545 using proboards

I cant lie that looks like a blast. Id like to take one out in the surf and ride a wave. Dont know about heading up the river with it though. Nothing like getting run over by your own boat. Lol

They have jet drive lower units you can buy for an outboard. If you could figure out how to interchange them yourself, you could have the best of both worlds. I saw Fishin' with Joe (from youtube) with a nice new Mercury outboard that he had a jet lower unit put on. He was fishing the Scioto with it and said he can go in 4-5inches of water and be fine. And if it was shallower he could build some speed and get through.

I had thought of getting a jet boat and then buying a used prop outboard and interchanging them....but the boats that you use with jets arent suited well for big water. Id need a v bottom for the ohio river and a flat bottom for the Scioto. I guess id be dreaming if I had both. ;D Sent from my SCH-I545 using proboards
