The past couple of times I have been out during 16000 cfs current and above, while fishing in the direct channel. I have used two medium cut baits along side two of the same sized live baits all Gills.( Live baits 0 Cut Baits 10 ). I have caught 8 Flats and two Blues. I think in the heavier currents the flatheads rely more on the scent trail than trying to use vibration. So if you have been skunked with live baits during heavy currents at least try one rig with some very fresh cut bait (the fresher the better).

Sounds good to me. I have noticed alot more Flatheads being caught on cut bait this year. I just started using more cut bait this year then past years and have done fairly well.

My buddy Doug caught a nice flatty a couple weeks ago on a bluegill head in the river. And this weekend in the river all our runs but one came on bluegill heads. The other one was on a live smallmouth.

Live smallmouth are amazing! But we have caught two smaller shovelheads on creek chubs that we have "skinned on" as we say. Nothing really big on anything cut up baits for us.
