a good pair of bibs and a jacket are key. just go to dicks and look at water resistant insulated hunting gear. the weather proofing works like a wind breaker. insulation will warm. coveralls are just as good.
sounds dumb but uderarmour gloves and hats are the best i have ever found. i hate to say that because i hate buying brands and i think normally you pay for the name. but as far as the hats and gloves go, the hunting models anyway, they have it nailed down. never had any of the normal ones just the hunting/camo line

Layering is key. Keep cotton away from your skin. Anything polyester. Wool is great also. Wool keeps moisture away from the body and thats key!

I dont live up north but i do fish all year long for panfish. I stay pretty warm most of the time. Some things i have picked up along the way are that...... Your lose most of your heat from your head so get a good hat. From there get thermal underwear they are thin so you can layer even more. They will help keep in a lot of heat. Insulated boots are a huge benefit as well. If my feet get cold the trips going to be cut short. Those are my three tips.
Good hat, thermal underwear, and insulated boots.

Cold feet are are a deal breaker for me. but i find that feet warmers much like hand warmers can be a life saver. Their is a kind that sticks to bottom of your sock in the shape of a shoe sole, they work amazingly, and are cheap.like a dollar a pack. I also have my bibs rather large, so i can wear my coat underneath. It seems much more snug and helps keep me warmer. also I keep my gloves between the bibs and coat. it allows easy on and off. and the heat from my body helps keep them just a little warmer than laying them on a seat. as for brand mine are all cheap walmart clothes. Those few little tricks alone help keep me warm. Keep your feet and hands warm and dry. the rest will take care of itself.
