I just hope I made the right choices in my gear. I decided on a Pro Angler 10' Rod, Penn Sargus 6000 reel, 300yds 50# Sufix 832 ghost that i will use with a 30# leader line and a Mono backing. Does this setup sound like it will be up to the task for larger cats and possibly other larger fish? I wanted a transport friendly universal rod that I could catfish almost anywhere but could even use it out on the coast if I wanted to. This will now be my primary go to catfish rig. I guess I am just 2nd guessing myself and got a little weird so I bringin it to yall to hear your opinions and input.

I looked into the Pro angler 10' It claims to have a good backbone, but in my experience a 10' rod that skinny and light make for harder casting. At least with lighter baits. I would definitly try casting with different lines. but with enough Practice anthing can become second nature. But thats all my experience i was younger with less experience, I could have been doing a lot of things wrong. good luck on your new setup. and congrats. I'm sure you did your homework before buying.

After getting the 10' rod today and casting it quite a few times against my 7.5 I only saw a 10 MAYBE 15 yard difference in casting distance. The 10' rod is most certainly more stout than my 7.5 and in MY opinion has a much stiffer tip. For the average size cats I catch where I live I believe my 7.5 would do just fine as it has a faster tip and I can see when those smaller guys are biting. I don't think I would be able to see when I had a smaller fish hitting with this larger rod. I will most likely return the 10 and possibly get another 7.5 for my son from the same company. It is amazing how much the 2.5' length makes for a shorter person like myself, it felt awkward to me. It could even be the extended handle throwing me off as I am placing my hand at the very bottom of the long handle when casting.
