Doesn't seem like too many people post about hunting on here but since there's a section for it I'll post a topic. I ended up getting 2 does early in the season with my old Bowtech 82nd Airborne. Had 5 encounters with different mature bucks running and chasing does this year but could never get them close enough or a clear enough shot. I hunt all public land so any mature buck is a shooter for me usually. I probably have seen more bucks than does this year with the majority of my sightings being small bucks. I normally don't hunt much or at all during gun week but this year I went out opening day and man was it packed. Luck would have it, I look over and 2 bucks were walking my way. The small one was in front and a nice one behind him. They dropped down in the ravine that is right next to me and the small bucks comes back up at about 15yds from me. He mingles for a little and then winds me and looks over and blows out. Soon as he does I stood up and shot the other one that was following him. Ended up seeing 5 other hunters on my drag out. I thought my chances of getting a buck this year were over after not being able to close the deal with my bow, but I guess you can't kill em from the couch. Glad I ended up going opening day. How's every one else's season been? Attachments:

Congrats on the nice buck. always love to see nice deer.I hunt pretty much only public land. Didn't even get my tag this year. But i always avoid the woods on public land on the first day of gun. almost got shot by somebody a few years ago, even though i was dressed in full orange.

nice deer dude. been slow up here. i usually dont hunt gun season. so i have been waterfowl hunting this week and probably like the next one or two to let the woods calm down again. late bow has always been best for me. i like early bow but kill count is higher late for us. again great deer man congrats. a few does is all we have killed

Thanks guys, he's not my biggest to date but biggest with a shotgun. Most of my deer have been killed with my bow.
It's definitely pretty crazy in the woods on small tracks of public Scott. Hunt on the ground and stay down behind some trees. Some guy I didn't know was there about 300yds above me on the hill actually took a shot at this buck after I shot him and he was running off. It had to of been a 300yd+ shot. It scared the crap out of me.
Chuck, my old school dehydrator crapped out on me earlier this year. I normally make tons of jerky out of bucks being they're so tough. Instead I made pounds and pounds of burger and sausages with this guy. I just got a Cabelas ad and they have a nice dehydrator on a christmas sale I may jump on.
Late season can definitely be very productive Jordan. On public land that we hunt, the woods don't get touched hardly at all by other hunters anytime after muzzleloader season. The public land I've hunted for a while now recently had a bunch of land surrounding it get sold in plans of building more houses and even apartment complexes is the word. I'll be doing some late season scouting with the snow on the ground down on Wayne in case the new construction pushes deer away.
