If any of you swamp me and my son prepare to be shot at LOL. Really tho what are some good tips? Ill get pics up tomorrow, Im buying them from my boss who already has them setup for fishing with rod holders. One is a sit in the other is a sit on top not sure of brand yet but he paid about 400 apiece for them Im getting both for 300 along with the PFD and everything that goes with them.
I need to get some stuff for the van to be able to carry them, I have the roof rack but I need the bars to go across them to put some J hooks on or is there an easier way to put them on the roof. I plan on staying close to the shoreline while in the lakes due to boat traffic and using them to go to places that you need a boat or yak to get to.
Ill be tempted to take them on Hoover first since its a low HP lake to test them out.
So any hints please give them to me.

I would personally just strap them the cross bar and mybe cushion the bar with foam, but j racks would work better.
Once it heats up, take them out and try to dump them. Rock them, stand in them, move around and see what it take and where they tip.
Water proof your valuables. I know SeanStone and I have lost hundreds of dollars worth of stuff; digital camera, car keys (no spare key and it had a chip and tow = hundreds of dollars), rods/reel combos, measuring boards, anchors, tackle boxes. Dry boxes, floats, and leashes are worth the money. I don't like leases because I take too much junk with me so it would look like a spider web if I tied it all down, but if you pack light its a good idea.
Tight lining from a yak is hard if you plan on catfishing from it. A dual anchor system (front & Back) will help to keep the yak in one place. I find slip floats work well if I can't find timber to tie off to.
Small/medium streams are where you will really get the best use out of them. Too small for other boats and too secluded for it all to be fished by bank fisherman.
Good luck and be safe. Kayak fishing has it's awkward moments and can be difficult but most everybody I know started posting multiple new personal best after getting a yak.

Just got them here are the pics. They are 10ft not 14 like I thought but that makes it easier for me to take somewhere also . Also if anyone knows where I can get some good but cheap PFD would appreciate it. Attachments:

How do you all keep your baits? Im thinking of bringing a small bucket and put holes in it so they stay live but could just as easily go for a cheap cooler that I could put them on ice.

Any type troll bucket works well. Put in the water when you sit still and pull it into the yak when you go to paddle. I also use the meduim size square cat litter buckets with snap lid and a small bubbler. Keeping the amount and size of bait I want on the kayak is one of my biggest issues. Still working on figuring out the best options.

Going to take them out on Hoover today to see how it feels (hopefully I dont have a freaking heart attack LOL) will bring a couple of rods for bass to test out fishing from them directly altho for cats I plan on just using them to take somewhere that I otherwise couldnt easily get to.

Not too bad, the sit on top was very shakey at first till I got used to it. Was out for about 1 1/2 hours. I was going to go to Dillon but kinda glad I didnt since the boat traffic there I would assume have been heavy.

Oh and the water was cold but with the rowing and it splashing on you it felt pretty good. Im not sure Ill try standing in one cant see why I would need to, that being said hell no with the sit on top LOL. I casted out a couple of times and it was awkward at first that will take some getting used to, but I hope to be able to use them to take to some place out of the way.

Went out yesterday with the youngest and found out the hard way that if you dump a sit in its next to impossible to get back in and actually row LOL. My youngest dumped it in the middle of Hoover and I almost freaked (he is very skittish sometimes) he started to panic but I was able to get him to be calm and stay by the boat while I tied it to mine and towed us all in. Got lucky the plugs were in place or I think it would have sank but since there was still air in it we were able to bring it to shore.
