Ive always fished for musky but now I wanna try for another top of the line predator. I need some tips on where to target the elusive flathead, ive fished for musky my whole life so I have patience lol. I have some good areas I could target them a tributary of the ky river is in my front yard the ky river is only about 45 minutes away and I have a lake with monster flatheads 30 minutes away. I have the gear and the spots I just need to know where to put my bait and know how the flatheads behavior differ with seasonal and weather changes. Any information someone could give me would be greatly appreciated, thanks! (By the way I practice catch and release and have all the equipment necessary to get a fish back out there healthy.)

good to hear man. the transition should be pretty easy. they have pretty similar patterns. Live Bait is a huge factor. You can get luckt with cut bait from time to time but live bait is best. Coves with deeper bases are a good place to start. they come up shallow but sure love a quick getaway if need be. If hitting the river look for slack water right off the main current( somewhere a dazed and confused small fish would wind up if the current pushed it there.)and the deeper the better. Right now is the best time the monsters are chasing bait and come quite close to bank. so cast a line get bent and have some fun. can't wait to see some nice pics.

Spillways also are good but usually overrun and overfished with someone hoping to get lucky. you can usualy catch a decent fish or two there, but I wouldn't count on catching anything big or actually learning anything about them. But it can be any easy way to catch one.

Would spillways and creek mouths be good spots ? Creek mouths are very good. Also spots with cover, rocks and woodpiles are good places to look too
