Ok, I have created a lot of confusion for myself. I made a post about rods and a post about reels. I'm not going to go into a lot, I'm just going to ask a question. What is the best BIG catfish casting rod and reel for fishing from shore or boat docks on the ohio river? Also, what line should I use? I do have experience but I am now getting into catching big catfish. I was using a crappy Shakespeare rod and reel combo I bought at the beach for pier fishing. I was using 50 lb. spider wire braid. I would just like to get appropriate gear for what I want to start doing more. I was looking at ugly stik tiger m/h rods. I was also looking at Shimano tr 200g reels. I'm sorry for flooding the website with posts the last couple days, I would just really like to get the best gear for what I need for my money. Thank you all for helping me out, I really appreciate it.

yes that rod and reel will handle big catfish "NO PROBLEM" in general anything rated for 20lb or better line will handle catfish as far as line goes 25lb-50lb mono or 65lb-100lb braid depends on what you like better as far as catching big fish I would run either 30lb mono or 80lb braid

Here are some gear reviews from my website. thequestformonstercatfish.com/category/gear-reviews/I prefer Ande Monster Yellow mono for line in 40 or 50 pound. For reels, I would spend a little more and get the Penn Squall. Match those with one of the Catfight rods from Bottom Dwellers the Take Down or Knock Out and you will be able to handle any catfish you come in contact with.

Thank you, I have changed my reel decision to the abu garcia alphamar. I would definitely go with the catfight rods except they aren't in stock so I am still gonna go with the ugly stik tiger m/h. If there are any problems with the alphamar please let me know it just seems like the correct reel for me so far.

Alphamars are nice reels I own more then a few 12s and 16s. Abu Garcia discontinued them, however they can still be found on EBay NIB. For the same money you might want consider a Penn Squall.
