For the past two years I've been on the search for flatheads on Charles Mill Lake. I Have had zero luck. Not even so much as a baby. Everyone knows they're there. If you go to the spillway your probably gonna find one. But there are so many people fishing there, the odds of finding a monster are slim to none. So I have focused my search on the lake and searching for a true monster. Over the time I've gone through many phases. There came many of times when I began to question my abilities as an angler. I questioned my baits, my locations, my stamina, and everything I knew about my catfishing abilities. I have spent many nights sitting on the water by myself. Pondering if I was doing it right. This year alone I have caught 17 Channels all over 15 pounds. They have made many good runs and put up some good fights. But when your on a search like I have been it becomes an obsession. And when a channel surfaces and your expecting a flatty, it feels a lot like heartbreak. This past weekend on the 28th of june I finally found one. Not a monster, But a blessing. It weighed only 22lbs 10 oz. But after what I've been thru, it was a huge sigh of relief. It relieved alot of my doubts which have been holding me back. And assured me that I've been on the right track. Hopefully in the weeks to follow I will be able to repeat my success and land some more, and continue my Quest For Monster Catfish.

Great job! Finding that first fish out of a lake you have yet to catch one out of is a awesome feeling!

Seems like you have to work for any flathead.
Lake flathead are often a greater challenge.

Live bait, at a pinch point where the river opens up into the lake, on a stump about 15 yards off channel.
