Saw the Berkley Big Game rods at Walmart and was wondering how good are they. Look good but it is just Walmart.
Another question is I got one of the Eagle Claw Ozark Snagger rods and didn't get home before the tip top guide broke out of the frame. Who makes other rods for snagging that is good?

For channel cats the Big Game rods would work. I wouldn't trust them for anything bigger. As for snagging rods I can't help ya there?

If your looking for a good dependable rod that's not going to break the bank I would suggest the Nite Stick Pros with cork handles. I've caught 30#+ flathead and blues over 40 on these rods. I've also caught small channels on them. A very versatile rod for the money. The 7'6" model is what I'm talking about. www.bottomdwellerstackle.com/american_spirit.htm

Kip how would you say the action of the 7'6" Nite Stick Pro compares to an Ugly Stik Catfish Rod or the Catfight Rod?

I'd say pretty comparable to the cat fight rods. Maybe a moderate action instead of fast like the cat fight. More bend throughout the rod instead of just the tip is what I'm meaning. I know a lot of guys like the ugly cats but I never really been a fan for other than small channels.

I use the berkley big game rods as part of my regular arsenal. I have a 7'6" medium action which for channels is a top notch pole. the top eye is stainless and the sesitivity is amazing. Yet the pole itself has some serious backbone with a very soft but not springy tip. This design is great when drift fishing. I also use an 8'0" medium heavy. Only because the medium action are hard to find. I bought it after using the medium for a year. The M/H doesn't have as soft of a tip. It works great for bank fishing. Both of these poles have proven themselves and stood the test of time being used on a very frequent basis. I caught 19 channels this year alone over 15 lbs and countless others. I can honestly say when one of these poles fail, or get passed on to a new friend, it will definitly get replaced by the same thing. As for snaggers, Why would anybody want to snag fish?

I had a Berkley 8' spinning rod and the tip snapped off just spooling it with line. I probably got a lemon, but that was my experience with them. I have 3 of the King Hawk 8' rods sold online by Walmart. I have easily thrown 8 oz plus bait with these. They have a fairly stiff tip and a large handle. More of a broomstick type rod, but great for big bait and current. Not great for smaller channel cats. I also have a 7' and 8' Ugly Stik Catfish rod. I like the rods, but the tip is a bit more sensitive than I like especially in the 7' rod. The flathead in my avatar picture came on the 7' Ugly Stik Catfish rod. That is my experience with Walmart rods.
