So my favorite bank spot for flathead has been VERY overrun and overfished lately. I can't even fish there anymore. So I am wondering what advice you guys could give me for locating a new one. I'm not sure what to look for when looking for a spot. We just got lucky with the spot that is overrun. Caught many flathead there. I am very desperate to catch a flathead, it's been way too long since I caught one over 15 pounds. Probably over 2 months. Is it possible to use one in summer, fall and spring? If so that would be great and what would I look for in a spot like that? I don't have a boat so I drive to all of my spots and walk where we need to. Thanks for any tips, I really need to catch a few good ones before winter lol

That's exactly what I have been looking at. Would I look for deep holes in the river?

I don't know about flatheads but what I look for in a spot is log jams, root balls ,or some other piece of cover, sometimes the simplest thing like a over hang limb will have fish

Thanks for the input bobby! I know you're a blue fisherman. I really wanna go somewhere to catch blues in the near future. Me and my dad are planning to go. Do you have any suggestions

Potomac or james river is probably the best 2 rivers on the east coast for blues

We were going to pick one of the two. Is captain Hugh still chartering? How could I get ahold of him?

Pay attention to where there are steep drop offs. the lines will be extremely close together on a topo

Would I fish above or below the drop offs?

Try both and in the middle if possible. Fish are constantly on the move. if you pick top or bottom you may miss them

Hello Morgan...Check the Navionics website under chart viewer for the water you fish and look for the ledges and holes. Chart viewer will even help bank fisherman.
