Hi everyone. Im new and from Missouri. I have been a channel cat fisherman. Mainly cause that's all I really ever knew how to target. All that is going to change this year. Im going to catch shad and target blue cats this year.......well I hope to anyways. I fish at mark twain lake mostly but always get to the Mississippi river at least once a year. Whenever water levels are permitting. I love the river!

Does that lake hold blues? Lakes can help you narrow your search a little. You can study maps and target some spots before you even leave the house. A lake with good current can produce some giants and make life a little easier rather than scanning miles of river. But that river is one of the best fisheries in the world so I would never pass up on your trips there.

I have heard that there are blue cats in mark twain lake but I don't know first hand. I hope to find out! I am going to try a shallow water pattern that I have studied. Now for the Mississippi, I guess I will try to locate shad and catfish. I have a great sonar unit, a hummingbird 898. I am feeling more confident on understanding what is on the screen. I am done fishing "blind". what I mean by that is finding a spot and fishing it and be in hopes that there are fish there. I just have to convince my old man to try it my way lol
