Hello fellow cat fanatics. I'm new to the Forum and was wondering how many of you use guides? I'm seriously considering changing from Striper guiding to Catfish. I have been guiding for several years now for ole linesides but Mister Whiskers is my passion. Lake Ouachita is known for producing Blues in the 100lb class for those of us that know where they live. Flatheads in the 50 to 60lb range are also abundant. Just wondering if there is a market for guides in my area that can produce mega cats? Any input is appreciated.

Quite a few of us use guides on out of town trips. Simply because it's cheaper and less of a hassle than bringing our own boats. plus a guide is better at finding fish in his own area. Not real familiar with Arkansas fishing, But I do know that down in the James river area, Guides are common. Also In the Catfishing community a guide is only as credited as his passion for preservation. If you don't care for your fish and do everything necessary to take care of them, It will get around quickly and business will be doomed.

I would just try booking a few trips at first and see how it goes before you jump completely out of the striper service. I don't think you would have much problem picking up clients but It really depends on how the catfish market is there as far as anglers. I would go with ya but 1 or 2 trips a week won't pay the bills. I would try both for a bit to test the water. I have always wanted to catfish that lake. Was there for a bass tournament years ago as part of a tourney trail
