Lat me start off by saying I am an Abu fan and I am getting a new reel to go on my ugly stick tiger medum action and I was looking at the Abu 7000 but somebody told me that the shimano TR100 and TR200 were good flathead reels they will be used for flatheads blues and strippers ocasssanly I would also like to be able to take them on vacation with me and use on sharks and other inshore fish I know the Abu is a good reel but I like the shimanos price and I'm not a professional so they won't get used every day

For the cost the shimano tr200 can't be beat. they are a strong no frills, reliable reel. they can take a beating and keep going strong. they have a loud clicker. They require precision dialing in on the tensioner with every little bit of weight change. if your off too much they backlash easy. However they are not tricky to figure out. If you don't mind the plain look they have, go for it. it will never let you down.

tr 200 are definitely great reels, i have 5 of them, but i have no problem with buying a 7000 if i find one with a great price. either way you go you will have a good quality reel.

after abu started making most their reels in china they don't seem the same to me...the older 7000's feel much smoother and durable.

I have used shimano tr200s and charter specials 2000 for years. Never let me down. Don't get me wrong Abu 7000s are nice. But don't think there as tough as the shimanos.
