Hey guys, I just joined up yesterday. I'm an avid Salmon/Steelheader from Oregon, but find myself in Maryland (Glenmont) now - and there's not too much of that going on inland. I didn't see a group or forum based upon locaiton, but was looking to see if anyone had infromation on fishing cats in Maryland. I read some threads on fishing the potomac, but I have a 13 year old now and I'm teaching him to fish. I was thinking getting into some smaller cats that we could take home and eat would be preferable at this stage. I figured taking his trophy home would be good. Basically I'm looking more for increasing his hookup chances so I can make a fishing buddy out of him. Any thoughts or feedback on locations other than the potomac best rigging would be appreciated. Historically I fished brown bulls with worms on a size 6 baitholder hook (back in the trout days) out west, and after reading I'm realizing I'm a catfish newbie so I'm asking for help. All I knew about cats growing up was bullheads, and I'd heard of channel cats. At this point from information I can gather online, it seems triadelphia reservoir is close and may be a good prospect, but I welcome any suggestions. Thanks in advance, Charles

do not no Maryland at all but as for basic channel cat fishing all you need is a simple carolina rig 1/2 oz to 1 oz egg sinker onto main line then tie a swivel then tie a leader about a foot long which you have a no.4 to no.4/0 hook depending on size of bait your using. i would keep it simple for eating size channel cats. use fresh cutbait shad, gills, carp or suckers. or you can even use chicken liver nightcrawlers, hotdogs, dip bait there is so many baits to catch eating size channel cats. you should have no proplem finding water tjat holds channel cats. good luck.
