It takes tons of time on the water to do that. Robby didn't catch them fish for being lucky. It takes many years of trial and error and fishless nites for a nite like that.

Like Kip said.
I fished the same that night as I do on nights I get skunked.
I ponder on why I got hot that night in case I could reproduce the same result. My conclusion was that a combination of water temperature, (caused by just the right weather), new structure planted the year before along the main channel, prespawn timing (causing many large males to be super active) and most of all a peak of a super spawn year (many large surviving members of a year class)
Most factors I cannot control or predict. The best I can do is keep baits in the water and hope.
BTW
The pic of my wife and I on the Catfish Queen.
She hooked and fought another flathead for maybe 15 minutes. It came unbuttonned and I let her have the next bite so she would quit whining. I didn't even mention that she doesn't set the hook quite as forcefully as us boyz ;D

It's hard mikey like kip and robby said. You have to have patients i still haven't caught anything over 20 pounds!

I most I have ever caught was in 2006. I caught 5 flatheads in 2 hours. I ran out of goldfish. Took the family out for a fall trip and bam they didnt know what to think. The biggest was 40lbs. Attachments:
