I went out today with castnet in hand to try and get some more shad to add to my pile in the fridge well i went to the small creek by my house and i made 5 throws in 45mins and i ended up with 4dzn shad from 3in -5in in length i think they will do good being it's still early spring and the smaller shad have fallen to the winter kill more than the larger shad and should look mighty a pealing to the channel and flathead cat's right bought now going to go tomorrow after work and fish the local MWCD Lake and see how they do, What size shad do you like to throw for early spring channel cats and Flatheads? ........Sniper

I like to use the heads so a 3-4 inch shad wouldn't do the job. I prefer to have the head off of a 8"+ shad. Not saying that its what works best, its just what I feel confident using.

I use the 9 to 14 inch shad. I filet one side and hook it through the nose!

Lol don't think you use that big of bait early in the season Kip...I'm assuming Will meant what size shad you would use this time of year....I could be wrong on that assumption...I myself would use smaller shad like u said will but never do real well this time of year so my opinion probably isn't really relevant
