this is a couple old alvey reels thought I would post pic of and ask if anyone uses alvey rod and reels . I use most all time fishing from bank there are great reels to cast live bait with like large perch with out slinging them off of the hook. and cast like a bullet with sinker and bait there not what i use in my boat but great on a 12 ft surf rods Alvey has a couple of smaller reels out that have a button on the side that also works well on surf rods .

Would you mind getting a few better pictures. I mean I know I could go the Google route, but I would like to see them. I don't do a lot of distance casting, but these look interesting. Is there a drag function on them?

They look like a crappie line holding reel to me. Not saying they are. I am just going off of looks I don't see how they would work

ok ill try. the pic are showing the reels in casting position to wind in they turn sideways . the dark one is a bakelite 550 C 5 and yellow one is 650 C5 model Alvey there both old in 60 es and 70 es these things last a lifetime nothing on them to wear out . each reel will hold over 500 yds of 20 lb mono line you can put a ballon and a blue gill on one and drift it wayout lol. and are used on low mount rods 12-15 ft rods these 2 reels has the cast release which not many ever seen before the reels are made in australia and the cast release was made in the United kingdom for the reels they dont come with the cast release the auzzys hold the line with there thumb to cast but i like to use heavy sinkers and the cast release is easyer on thumb they have a star drag and a good loud clicker and retreive rate is 1 to 1 (slow) there is always some on ebay for sale and there is alvey.com which has lot of pictures of the new reels and how to cast and use .. there a beach rod/reel for distant casting bait.

nope thats not the bait LOL I catch dinks to I just wanted to show a alvey rod and reel rig was using a float in some timber that reel is in retreive position it swivels around under the rod and cast like a spinning reel I usually never use a long rod in the boat . usally like in first pic.

thats pretty cool man. Seems innovative. EAsy casting, with no line twist on retrieval. wonder why it did't catch on better.

they do have line twist on retrieve. that is the bad thing i havent mentioned I use 2 small swivels above hook and weight and after prolly 20 long casts un twist the first 100 yds of line on reel I use a reversable drill lol it dont take but few seconds i usually do this at home just pull off line on my scooter down road then reverse spinn line with drill ride back to reel and wind line back on LOL> the line cast off like a big spinning reel 6 inch spool and winds back on like a big pen reel if that makes sense this do cause line twist .. best thing about them ya can toss large live bait out with ease. i wouldnt think about tring to lure fish with one or do a lot of chunk and wind fishing just bait cast for me.
