I night at a local MWCD Lake rcbbracing ,fishstick11 and myself were catting from the SPOT and i had happened to notice a large amount of activity around the rip rap i turned my headlamp on the red light and hit the rocks just 2 ft off the bank and to my surprise there were a large amount of channel cats cursing the rock's gorging on shad so i decided to tie on a float rig and cast a dead whole shad 5ft off the rock and 3ft down to my surprise this trick worked like a charm and i was into cat's left and right one after another 3 to 5 lb channels then it happened i hooked into a 6 or 7lb channel got him landed and proceeded to unhook him now we all know you never put your bare hand into a channel cat's mouth especially during pre spawn they will bite you and hard trust me lol so i was unhooking the fish holding him up and down by the bottom lip and( if you can picture a screen door being slammed on your hand please?) It sounded like he slamed a screen door on my finger's well you guessed it he clamped down and hard so hard that i dropped the fish and Dave & Mikey just gave me a look in disbelief like omg did this just happen he bit me so hard and fast i thought he broke my fingers i will admit i did shed a :'(tear and cussed up a storm that was the last time i did this in pre spawn season to a channel of course Dave and Mikey had to laugh at me once knowing i was ok like true buddy's do in your time of need lol ........Sniper P.s Dave tell the 1 of the new rod and reel you broke fist trip out with it this is a good 1 boy's

I have had that happen several times. Believe it or not the worst bite I have ever felt came from a bullhead. How they manage to clamp down so hard I'll never know. Never heard anyone say not to put your hand in their mouth during prespawn though. I will have to remember that.

I know channels can bite down hard but bluecats pads are twice as long and sharp! Look at the pain in my face when this 30# blue clamped and twisted on me!

This is not a channel story but a bullhead story, my cousin and i was fishing the tusc one evening, and we was fishing where a creek dumped in, we were kinda low on a bait so i went up the little creeek with a home made cane pole and 1 little hook i found in the cat bag, i found a nice little undercut with some roots in it and dropped a dug up worm i found close by the creek, not 10 seconds and wam a big 7 inch creek chub, after that one after another, then a bullhead decided to take the worm. like all bullheads he swallowed the hook so i went to bite the line off, as soon as i got my mouth close he latched onto my lip, my reaction set in and i pulled away causing a bloody and black and blue lip like i just got punched buy a golden glove.

man I bet that hurt like heck. I also use my teeth to cut lines most of the time. I have a false front tooth, which is relatively sharp so it does a good job. It's inconvenient to get into my bag and get the clippers out. This story definitely makes me hesitate about doing it ever again. In reality I'll keep doing it, but I'll be selective about when and how I do it.
