Treating cork handles

Hey everyone, I have a quick question. Santa brought me a couple new rods that have cork handles.  What's the best way to seal the cork or should I even bother? I know they sell cork seal and such but I just wanted to see if there were any old timey "home remedies" out there. Thanks!

I have never done anything to any of mine and they have done well. For the most part as long as no mice or anything get to them they will outlast the rod
