American Spirit has a new rod series in their line up. The Monster Pro series, cork gripped black blanks orange wraps, Sglass/graphite construction. The 2 models that caught my eye were the 1piece 7'6" H casting 15-40 line wt, 9 guides plus tip $51.95 and the 1piece 7'9" XH casting 25-60 line wt, 10 guides plus tip $54.95 this model has an all metal reel seat. According to Catfish Connection the rods should be available around March 1..

Jordan, let me know what you think of the rod when you get it, I am in the process of hotrodding a pair of old Penns for my dedicated river reels, I have been giving Monster Pro Rods a hard look to pair with them

Good deal, no problem. Water is probably going to be way up, we have been getting hammered by rain.

American Spirit Monster Pro Cat initial thoughts : I ordered 1 of each 7'6" H 1-8oz and a 7'9" XH 2-16oz. UPS actually delivered them a day early! The rods each have 10 all SS guides plus tip. On the XH the guides are gun smoke gray double footed, however on the 7'6H the first guide is a tall almost appearing to be a spinning guide mounted upright again all the guides are SS gunmetal colored. The XL has a metal rod seat and the H has a SS steel hooded graphite seat. The metal seat on the XL is nice but not as refined as the metal seat on the Catfight Rods. The 7'6"H has a trigger handle and the XL doesn't. The actual Rod length on the H and XH is the same the additional 3" length of the XL is handle. The Cork on both rods seems nice the fit to the butt cap while not perfect is better then some of the older AS products. The handles themselves remind you of the Catfight series in that they increase in diameter in the heavier action Rods. The XH handle is every bit as thick as a BottomDwellers Take down. The XH rod feels like you could use them beat the tar out of any catfish if needed once you had it on the bank or in the boat. The rod blanks are a composite of Sglass and graphite according to AS. The orange and black rod will remind you of a Whisker Seeker but the AS Monster Pro has more orange. The last 9"s of the rods are yellow and supposed to glow in the dark. I have a pair of Penn Squalls mounted on them. The rods seem balanced. Again the thicker longer handle of the XL in hand gives the impression of stout catfishing rod. I ordered a spool of 40lb Pline when it arrives I will spool up the Squalls and hang weights to show the action of both the H and XH rod. Initial impression on unpacking is for the $51.00 and $55.00 the rods cost they seem to be soundly made and cosmetically nice. The true test will be checking the action and then hopefully catching some nice shovelheads.

What is the deal with that tall eye? Is it for bumping and walking baits? So that there is more feel and less tension on the line?

Jordan, I have no idea what the deal with the tall eyelet is.. I ended up putting my Fathoms on the rods. The tall eye on the H does seem to have a smoother transition down the eyelets then the XH... I am hoping to have a pair of the White ONG 7'6 MH and a ONG 7'9 H rods to compare by the end of the week. I sent AS an email asking about the eyelets, when I hear back I will post here or text you. FYI the yellow ends don't glow in the dark, they gather light in low conditions like dusk... but in the dark no glow...

Jordan, I emailed Michael Wu with American Spirit and you hit the nail on the head, the taller first eyelet is supposed to ease the transition of the line and improve feel and castability of the rods.
