With the hot weather, I have noticed the water temps have risen in the couple lakes I do my fishing on. I am dangerously close to passing by fishing and moving into sitting on the bank looking stupid.. Yes it has been that long between hits. Has anyone else seen a sudden dramatic drop off in activity? Or do I just stink? LoL

Channels are spawning for sure and flathead follow them. So I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if some bodies of water the flathead were starting to spawn. We are at Seneca, no runs last night and tonight we are on the verge of getting rained out. It has been absolutely dumping rain on and off.

Thanks Fred. We stuck it out, but didn't get set up like we would have liked. The place we fished we usually pull my boat down to drag and drop lines or use a kayak. We rarely have much luck casting, there is some structure and a channel but you can't reach them by casting. Anyhow it was dumping rain, the water was really rough and the wind was really strong, and of course we had the kayak and not the boat. It was impossible to set the lines so we just casted. Didn't end up catching any.

Don't let that streak get ya down Fred, it happens to everyone at some point. June can be pretty tough on the lakes. Usually we will start peppering in some river trips just to keep the skunk off or start settin out one rod with a smaller bait, like a sucker or creek chub. A bait that will still draw a flathead but will also be edible by bigger channel cats. That way if nothing else we get to hear the clicker roll and set into a fish. Plus them big lake channels are a blast to catch and I have caught many this way in June in the 18 to 20lb range. I have still never broke 20 on a channel but finally out weighted my 18.8 with a 19.4.

Rained on us all night again last night and no flathead again. Fished all big baits. We are scouting a new spot today. Well an old spot that we haven't fished in a few years. The good news is it doesn't need cleared. Its a secluded Rocky shoreline. The bad news is the amount of poison ivy. But we can walk all the rods a bait in after a decent little hike and then kayak the baits out. Its right ion the main channel. So we can dump the baits in the channel and on the inside flat closer to the bank. Its snag heaven but we have caught a decent amount of 40s and 50s there so I am optimistic. But with all the rain the water is really muddy, but we will see.

Rain missed us but so did the fish. Managed one little one. Didn't put the him on the scale but upper teens would be a safe bet he wouldn't have broke 20.
Ducky is the only person I know to bank any so far. He got a 40, 22 and a 20 so far. He also knows of a confirmed 60 caught.
I have heard a few rumblings of fish being caught but very few and far between. And like I said ducky is the only person who I actually know to report some catches.
