Hello. I like the original Sweden made reels. I want to buy a vintage ambassaduer 7000c. What year did ABU start making 7000c? What is your opinions of 7000c compared to 7000ic3 or other 7000 reels? Please share your advice as I want to buy a strong reel that I can hand down to my grandson. I am going to use this reel to go after huge shovelhead and bluecats. Thank you.

I can't help with th 7000 comparisons, as I am a fan of Penn and Okuma reels. I believe the Swedish made 7000s are 7000B not C.. Good luck in your search, any of the 7000 series reels with a little maintenance can be generational reels.

I have ventured away from the 7000 series since they moved production to China. I love the ic3 I think it handles great, casts great, has a strong drag. On my opinion it could be the best catfish reel on the market. I say could because I owned 8 of them. Of the 8 reels, I wore the gears out in 5 of them. Don't get me wrong I fished them a lot and I fished them hard, but 3 seasons and 5 of 8 reels are smoked all ready is bullshit out of a 200 dollar reel in my opinion. I kept them cleaned and oiled the best I could. Again they were fished hard, fished in sand, fished in mud, fished in rain etc... However after I switched to the shimano tr200 and charter specials I have yet to have a reel lock up on retrival or bind up on the cast. They have been fished as hard, cleaned less and lasted twice as long.
In my personal opinion and take it only for what it's worth. If you can't find a Swedish one, go with a Penn, okuma or shimano. If you go with a shimano tr200 or okuma classic or Penn gt you are getting a reel that is every bit as good of quality for 1/3 of the price. It won't have all the bells and whistles but in a catfish reel those are unnecessary anyways.

Ouch on the brass gears wearing out... I bet that is why Penn uses Bronze

Murray The diff between. 7000 and 7000-c. Is the c has bearings And 7000 has bushings. The bushing reel is older reel It makes me no diff in the 2. I got both. Made in sweeden. Only thing I have wearing out is a paw on mine not offen. These are push Button line release reels. Not the ones with the lever
