I live in Danville, IL. I will start out with channel catfish from the bank for now as I don't have a boat. I would like to meet someone in my area to help me get into this sport. Not sure what to buy and use that I already own. I would appreciate any help that is given.

For channel cat fishing I would bet you already own adequate equipment to get started, you can upgrade as you see fit.

I would recommend watching the many catfish videos on YouTube. There are some awesome channels, one being Steve Douglas the Catfish Dude.
