Need a little help can anybody tell me how far up the Potomac river I could catch some blues not real fond of getting near D.C. and I only have a 16’ John boat and live around the Maryland line. I have never fished for blues but would like to try.

Hey man, I would say that you could go up around the Woodrow Wilson bridge. I would try right below before the Dyke Marsh in the channel. I've seen a few guys out there even in kayaks, though I haven't sat there myself yet. I also was looking at some depth charts for the area around Fort Washington and right at the fort it drops off to almost 60-70' before opening up into Piscataway and Occoquan. If I thought I could stay there in my kayak for long enough, I would but I think you'll be fine in a boat. My suggestions without going up through DC. Otherwise, you might try up by Fletcher's Cove. I know it gets super deep there too and stripers hang out in the area for the baitfish, so blues have got to be holed up there too. Hope that helps.
