Hey guys! New to this forum but have been fishing channels for a while. I am out of Fargo, North Dakota so we fish the red river from fargo all the way up to Selkirk Manitoba.

Welcome redrivercats...me and my son have a trip planned in May/June of this year fishing the red river in Manitoba near the dam. First time fishing the red river for us. Barbless hooks and what do you recommend for bait and should we bring it from the US or can bait be bought there? Thanks

Awesome redrivercats...we are renting a 35 ft camper trailer at the Silkirk Park Campground. We are staying a week and leaving back home to Wisconsin on June 6. We have a wedding to go to on the following Saturday otherwise we would stay longer. The camper rental outfit brings the camper to the site and sets it up and everything then takes it away when we are done. There is a launch right there at the campground. Awesome on the suckers. We will do the same and I will look for a bait shop near the border and order some. We are new to fishing Manitoba and never had to remove the barbs. What tool do you use to do that? Thanks!

We just pinch the barbs down with some pliers. And as far as the walleyes, it is a great fishery for them. Mainly in the fall though from what I hear. My brother did catch one on our trip up there last year in June. But come fall and even ice fishing it’s supposed to be really good. Still have yet to do that but one year we will. And that’s awesome about the camper. I will have to look into that next year.

WOW...It was awesome! Best fishing of my life. Me and my son fished the Red River at Selkirk Manitoba Canada for 6 days. We weighed, recorded and video taped the catches. We caught a grand total of 3,717.04 lbs of channel catfish. All were CPR except for only 3 fish that went in the air fryer. Those 3 fish were only ones small enough to keep. The biggest fish caught was 29.1 lbs. I will be producing YouTube videos for my channel "Catfish Stalker Outdoors with Capt Greg Ollila" showing what set ups, tackle, bait, ect that we used. The Navionics Plus US/Canada card worked awesome and that Red River was scanned well. I recorded sonar logs everyday and will upload those logs to the Navionics website making the mapping even better. I also made 4 community edits marking the fishing hot spots. The Lockport Dam was awesome fishing but we also fished about 15 miles north of the dam into Lake Winnepeg where we caught numerous catfish. Subscribe to my YouTube Channel to see the footage. I highly recommend this trip. WOW #Navionics
