Dave(rcbbracing) & myself are going to hit Tappan or Clendening tomorrow night after he get's off work going to stay the night at the lake and i have to be home by 4am to be ready to go to work by 5am i know it's gonna be a rough thursday at work lol just hope it is all worth it?............ My question is this during this time a year where do you look for channel cat's from the bank? What rig's do you use to catch them?........What bait's would you pick to take with ya ? help us out guy's we might need it lol were gonna try to throw net some shad before dark and maybe get a few live gill's but what else is good this time a year?

I like shad and chubs early in the year for channels. As for lakes this time of year i usually target deeper water at night and shallower bays in the day time. If you find the bait you will find the fish.

Better take the control item for the tourney. I would hate to see you guys land a big one without it. ;D The only channel I have caught this year was in 20 feet of water in mid day. In my opinion shads probably your best bet, but like kip said its hard to beat chubs if you can get them. I would target the tributaries, with all the rain they are probably waiting for food to wash out to them. Good luck.

I got 2 spot's in mind tell me what ya'll think?
Spot 1.......Incoming creek dumps into the lake shallow 4ft with a creek channel running through it and can cast to channel
Spot 2 ........Deep 25ft water with rock and boulder's on the bottom with shallow water within 75yrds of the deep water?
For some reason I"m leaning towards the deep water with the rock bottom what is yawl's opinion ? Also how would you fish it ?

How far are they apart? They both sound like pretty good spots. I would hit the tributary spot first, if they are feeding you'll know. Then I would move to the second if the second spot doesn't work out. However if they are too far apart or for some reason you can't fish them both I would fish the second spot. It offers both deep and shallow water so you can fish all along the different depths. I would set poles on bottom with cutbait. Two in shallow and two in deep. Once you catch a couple, you can hone in on them.

We got into 16 channels last sunday in about two and a half hours. Found them in 3 feet of water or less. They were not aggressive at all real light biters. Really slowed down as the sun set. All were caught on cut shad. Also noticed the shad were getting active in the shallow waters.

Caught a few dozen out of the spillway two weeks ago when it was down for a couple days. Hasn't been down enough to go back and get any more yet since then. I haven't tried the pond yet but would imagine there might be some there ducking out of the current.

There isn't much depth to those creek channels you would be fishin Varmint. I've been getting dink 2 lbers in shallow water and the better fish have been coming from 12-16 ft. Fishin bottom with floats on the leader.....20 inches or so long
And Boo on you Dave.......you were supposed to let me know where you were gonna be. I woulda came out for a while last night if I had known.
