Has anyone used Water Dog's/ Mudd puppies for bait before? I have a creek by my house that every year i manage to catch 20 to 30 from while fishing cat's was wondering if they any good for bait some i get ate 14in long and some smaller like 8in long , how you hook them, what eat;s them , when a good time to use them, what kinda rig you fish them on?
Have never tryed or used them let alone heard of using them my bro in law said the internet said they were good cat bait but that was all it said was looking for more input and advice.....Sniper

This probably doesn't help you too much, but I have read in a few "bait, rigs, and tackle books" that they make excellent bass bait. You might wanna be careful though, some salamanders and newts are toxic to fish so they don't mess with them. It would suck to spend 100 hours fishing with a bait that fish won't eat.

Will, I am convinced flatheads will eat anything thats indigenous to their system! They are the primary predator! I once kept a small flathead around 6 or 8 pounds to eat after hooking deep. When I cut the belly sak open, a 31 inch water snake fell out on my foot! Yeah! A Snake! EWWWW,, Still get goose bumps.. Hate Snakes!!!!!!!!! rollo

I agree I've read of guys using them...asside from the toxin issue which I've never knew about I don't see why they wouldn't work...I've heard of people using then but its always a cousin or brother never first account stories...heck prolly easy to keep alive too
