what are your thoughts this time of year? been a weird spring again...I guessed tappan and clendening are probably holding about 58-60 degrees but I might being kind of optimistic...thinking I'm gonna fish one of these two lakes a few nights this coming week...anyone know the lake temps or have a guess as to where and how the flatheads will be feeding this early?

I would not fish at nite yet, we caught 2 lake flats so far the one i caught a few weeks ago and biggie caught a 25 thursday both fish came from a transition spot we fish where flats seem to hold close to a shallow long running bay but still in close to water in the 12 to 15 foot range, both fish were caught between 6 and 7 pm.i caught mine on a big live shad biggie caught his on goldfish. I think we wil be catching fish in 2 weeks prety well. water temp at atwood today was 62.

I wouldn't fish at night either they are up in the day while the sun is still up so it is warmer. We haven't caught a flat yet but a few channels and in the day. We caught ours on chubs though.

Don't feel bad I have met Mr. skunk several times this year. I blame it mostly on fishing too early, but it never hurts to try. I'm still looking for my first flathead, I finish college this Thursday, so I'll try to get him this weekend.

I agree with ducky, dont be afraid of deeper ledges and daylight this time of year. Last year I caught 75 percent of mine before dark

I'll be heading out Sat. to do some fishing in daylight and maybe stay ater dark also not sure yet but i will have a live bait on in the day time and will have a smaller cut bait on also and see if this cold weather make's them want a smaller bait that was the only thing i didnt try last sat at the tournament was to down size a bait on 1 pole and see if it made a difference
