Found around 300 yellow sponge mushrooms today, all were found within 30 or 40 yards of each other. I found them close to the only elm tree in that strip of woods, there were prob. close to 100 that were already to dry to even pic. Also found this nice 8 point buck tucked up under a brush pile when i was out.

Nice batch. Just curious, are you able to store/freeze them? I've tried in the past and never had any luck. If I find more than we can eat in a week, some end up getting wasted. Looks like the deer has been there a while. Nice deer.

I've heard guys say they freeze them I have never tried it. I usually just eat them till I get sick and give the rest away! Lol.

Got some in the freezer now. We have froze and ate them and they are fine, sometimes they get a little soggy though. You can do it several ways, but we have found that by freezing them individually they hold their texture better. You can do this by placing them on a cookie sheet in a single layer and placing it in a freezer. We use a deep freezer for faster results. Give them 20 or 30 mins and they will be hard as a rock, you can then put them in a ziplock bag. This way also prevents the mushrooms from clumping when you freeze them. We have ate some that were frozen for up to a year before. I think as long as you keep freezer burn out you'll be fine. Kip nice find. We also found a dead deer on our last mushroom hunting trip. The body and all was attached. It was a large 10 point.

My mom took the rooms and halfed them then dipped em in egg and then cracker crumbs, layed them on wax paper then froze them. after they were frozen would take them out and bag them and back to the freezer.
