Ive caught alot of channel cats in my life and have seen Some cats every year that are pooping weeds no big deal. Sat. night I caught 25 channels every cat was pooping weeds to the point they were blowing out their you know whats . Anyone know why this might be happening? Are they just that hungry they are sucking everything up in the weed beds? Or are they trying to get plankton or something like eggs off the bottom? I just never seen every cat do this before. Thanks Steve

Steve Its a tough World out there and fish have to eat what they can at times. Channel cats are very opportunistic and eat almost anything organic.
They can't just go to McDonalds and eat whatever they want. If we knew everything about fish it wouldn't be nearly as challenging.

I've seen this a lot in ponds. Of course the ponds are usually choked with thick weed growth, so I have always just assumed they are eating a lot of weed while trying to munch on anything else that's live or dead in those weeds. I really can't remember seeing it from a lake or river though. It's definately something different the first time you see it.

I know this is a old post but I thought I'd reply to it anyway. Ok guys let this old Fl catter drop some info on you that you guys may not know. Channel cats eat weeds from time to time it is actually part of their diet. They get part of their needed nutrients from plants just as we get from vegetables.

I've never seen it before anywhere I fish. Thanks Swampy for the info. Kip they eat them from time to time in small amounts in places were there is not enough bait fish they will feed on weeds heavily.
