I was just wondering how many people use floats for flatheads. I primarily use floats in lakes and use a bottom rig in streams and rivers where current is a factor. I know a lot of people who wont even touch a float, they fish on bottom or dont fish at all. What have you guys found to be successful?

i have used floats in both. the hardest thing i have found is in a lake keeping your floats from drifting across each other. the only way i can think to solve this is to drop your floats a good ways apart from one another from a boat.

They are great in lakes, last year Ducky caught alot of flatheads using floats. The flatheads in the MWCD lakes seem to like the floats!

I only use floats on MWCD lakes for flatheads. I have an article in my blog in the "How To" section on how I make my own slip-floats for livebait fishing. Check it out, and I will add it to this site as well. rollo

I make my own as well. use a noodle like kids use in the swimming pool, shove a slip bobber down in the hole of it and you got yourself a slip bobber, just cut the noodle to the length of the slip bobber, they work fairly well too. put some glue on the slip bobber and then it will stick to the foam of the noodle for a while. they dont last for ever but what does anymore?

I love floats, lake or river. The back of the boat in current keeps them apart but mostly I know the depth and drop a three way with a heavy sinker holding it relatively still. I give it some slack so live bait can swim in about a 3 foot circle. Mostly I love cut bait though. I don't have better luck on either and cut bait is easier to store, keep and takes up less room on the boat.

Floats means more flatheads a certin time of the year, there is times when the only way i can catch flatheads is floats if you dont use em your missing fish you could be catching!

Same here, love floats for flats. I fish the MWCD lakes more than any other water and use floats 85 percent of the time(mostly tappan, clendening, and seneca)
