Took the boys out to the Dam last night, got there about 8:30 and it was pretty much lined with people on both sides fishing . I was able to throw the net and catch enough shad which surprised me they were big shad also. Put my bait in a bucket and the pond area was pretty full so we just walked straight from pond parking lot to the river. Put a live shad on one and cut on the other and got some hits but no takers, there was heat lighting for the first couple of hours so they may have shut down at that point with the cold front approaching. It started to rain real hard about 11:00 so we left at that point. Had fun except my youngest who was freaked out by the June bugs LOL. The one sad thing was while at the dam there was someone that had a 15 - 20 lbr flatty just sitting up on the bank, I asked if he was going to eat it and he did say he was which if he was I would rather have them eat it then just leave it to die. After reading the news Im glad I didnt go up to ellis to fish with those boys that drowned at the camping there last night.

I was almost ecstatic that after 1 throw I had that much shad LOL and big ones also. There wasnt much of a current I was able to use 2oz to hold. If you want shad I was at the very top of the dam throwing to the right side

Gary Seems like every sharp bend/hole on the Licking holds a few flathead. Too bad you couldn't get into some of them.

hope you get into em' next time ryan, shoulda brought some hotdogs? lol
I let a spread soak pretty good down there tonight and didn't get any good pull-downs.
the spillway was blowed out today, night n day compared to how it was saturday. Had to walk down to where the riprap ends on the parking lot side and there was a huge current break.......a smorgasborg of baitfish too.........you wouldn't beleive how thick the bait was in there....not just shad either little carp and good sized hognosed suckers. Bait was too easy i guess, shoulda took it to another spot......

Robby I could practically be right on them and not catch any ;D , last year Skip and I went out and 10 minutes after getting bait in the water I had my biggest (40lbr in my avatar) and then caught a couple more that were around 5-10lbs and Skip caught a 38 lbr all in 2 hours. There were a lot of people there that night also so it was being fished pretty heavily but the shad were so easy to get and for me that was almost as good as catching a good flatty (ok not really LOL). Bass I had hot dogs lol thats what the kids were using LOL they didnt catch anything either
