I usually run 2 to 3 ounces in the lake and 3 to 8 ounces in the river. Depending on current and bait size.

I usually have 4 oz bank sinker tied on. Theyre pretty practical for my river/bait/casting distance. I use bullheads alot and they'll pull around 3oz sinkers and smaller

I use 2 oz sinkers in lakes unless I have insanely huge baits.
In rivers I use a sinker slider and have a bucket of various sized weights to hold in each current condition. I just keep clipping on heavier weights till they hold. I tie mono loops on the weights so they clip on quickly and this serves as a sacrifice if they hang up.
BTW On most bottoms you can use a pyramid sinker and get away with a smaller weight because the hold better.

unfortunately my molds are for cannon ball, just round, sinkers with a brass eye so i typically run those which they are fine i guess. no real issues. for lakes though i like to run no rolls

We run a variety of no rolls, banks, and pyramids. Ranging from 2-6 ounces. My favorite have been the bank sinkers by far. Don't get me wrong the pyramids are nice for soft bottoms and holding down large baits, but its hard to beat a 3 once bank on a sinker slide. I don't like the no rolls for the sole reason of having to run your line through the center. Some of them have semi-rounded edges and a bait can rough you line up on them.

No lake flatties here.In our rivers at normal pool,it's usually anywhere from 6 to 12 ozs depending on how close to a dam you're fishin.I run 8 oz no-rolls 90% of the time.
