that first couple jerks could be the fish taking the bait in and then positioning how it wants so it can swallow it. When i get runs like that i just wait for a while if it doesn't do anything else i real it in to inspect the bait to see what is going on. Sometimes its turtles taking chunks out of the bait, sometimes i have crush marks on the bait which usually tells me it was a smaller fish trying to bite off more than it can chew and decided against it. I used to be afraid that the clicker tension was scaring fish off but i highly doubt it and if it is that fish is probably smaller than what im after, the big ones dont care about tension or hooks or just about anything. One thing to consider though is what position is your rod when fishing becuase if your rod is between 90 to 45 degrees then not only is the fish having to fight the tension of the clicker but the rod will load up a little before the clicker goes out, i am not sure if this makes a difference but i try to keep my rod as close to parallel to the water surface if using a clicker, this eliminates the rod playing any part of a fish activating the clicker.
