My first post here. Me and my buddy Mickey went to northwest Michigan for our yearly salmon fishing trip. It was the best trip I've ever had. We left Tuesday morning at 2:30 am and got there at around 7:30. We had the first fish on the stringer by 8. It only got better from there. We landed over 100, broke off another 150-200 we went thru that many hooks is how we knew how many broke off. We kept 20, the limit for 2 of us for that time. We had to go buy another cooler because we didn't have enough room in the ones we took. The fish are the biggest they have been in 15 years and we were getting mostly between 20-30 lb kings and a few cohos. Awesome fight on the gear used. We use 10 ft noodle rods, 6 lb line and a #8 hook with a single salmon egg for bait. Not sure how to put pics up on this site but will if I figure it out.

We were in the Ludington area but they are that big everywhere in Lake Michigan this year. For some reason the number of alwaifs skyrocketed this year and the salmons had a field day all summer. Any river up there by Traverse city should be hot now. I'll prob chase them farther south, Grand Rapids Michigan area, in a few weeks and make a trip just for cohos in November.

Awesome fight on the gear used. We use 10 ft noodle rods, 6 lb line and a #8 hook with a single salmon egg for bait. 30lb fish on 6lb. line, awesome. Sounds like a heck of a time. It's definitely on my to-do list. Congrats.

Awesome fight on the gear used. We use 10 ft noodle rods, 6 lb line and a #8 hook with a single salmon egg for bait. 30lb fish on 6lb. line, awesome. Sounds like a heck of a time. It's definitely on my to-do list. Congrats. We use that small of gear so they don't see it except the egg. If they see the line they move away from it. If they see the weight the same thing. We use a carolina rig with a 3 ft leader. Some of the fights were 20-30 minutes most 10-15 minutes and your whipped after a day of hooking all day. Those noodle rods are the trick to getting them in. The last fish on Thursday night I was laying on my back with the rod pointed up and it was bent in half I was so worn out. Lucky for me that was a back and forth fish and not one that took off back down to the lake. You gotta try it sometime. I've been going up since 1988 and only missed 2 years in that time. It's hard to get the timing down but if you foolow the fish reports from up that way you can hit it pretty good usually.
