Can anyone attest to the durability of a berkly glostik rod? I am interested in quality of the pole as well as the durability of the lights (per set of batteries). It would be beneficial for me to use them if it indeed lasts the 40 hours stated by the manufacturers. I spend ~$1.50 dollars per trip on glow sticks when I run circle hooks. A typical night lasts 6-8 hours. I don't use those weak dollar tree "toys." lol
If I buy rechargeable batteries for $25 (charger included) I cut the battery costs. I have fished 79 times this year so far, not all have been at night for catfish though. By December I will have fished in the mid 80's. For arguments sake lets assume I fished 70 night cat trips per year.
70 trips * $1.5 for glosticks = $105 a year in glosticks.
$105 -$25 for batteries and charger= $80 saved in the first year.
Thats the same as two free glostick rods. Of course I will have the added hassle of charging batteries. Opinions?

My experience with the cheaper glow sticks has been that they don't last more than an hour, and they are nearly impossible to see. I have only bought off brand glow sticks twice, so I'm not saying that they are all like that.
I have been buying boxes of the 3" glow sticks for $15, which hold 20 light sticks. Last month the guy at the bait store ordered me a box of omni glow rod clips which I really like. I believe I paid $45 for a box of 100 clips, which is a little less expensive than the 3" sticks. I'll start messing around with the off brand glow sticks and see what I can learn over the next week or so.

I also get the 8 inch glowsticks, but I buy them in the tubes of 100. A few duds, but they last plenty long enough for a night of fishing.
I have a glowstick, but have only gotten to test it up to a 38 lb flat. Some people are anti 2 piece rods, but I never thought once it wasn't gonna hold. I was actually surprised at how it felt and am confident it would hold up to anything I could hook into. Of course like any rod you also have to have your drag set right or you'll snap it like some of the yahoo's I've seen breakin rods on snags they set the hook into hahaha.
The one nice thing about the glowstick was that I never used the batteries other than to show people. The rod itself glows plenty bright enough without them. I have hit mine with a light to recharge it though.

Thank for the info rockbass. I'm sure it will hold up to most fish as well. I have yet to hook into one of those, "I couldn't do anything with it" fish.
