That's a good deal Kip.
Back in the "olden" days before computers the DNR printed out lake maps and sold them at their cost of reproduction. My daughter bought me the complete set in a binder. I am one of those people who are truly hard to get a present for and she found something I could use and something no one else would take the trouble to get.
When I visitted a new lake I often put handwritten notes about locations on the lakes.
Now with GPS I can accurately return to locations I have found on various lakes.

i like looking them over whenever i head to a new lake, try to mark some spots to try, with the gps and lake maps i have now its a lot easier, some lakes even show and mark the flooded timber zones and rocky bottom areas, they dont always show on all the maps

I have found dnr maps aren't always accurate on depths unfortunately ...but they are a good tool to use in combination with GPS, Google earth, and guess and check fishing...

I'm not sure if they still sell them, but my buddy bought some really nice map books that had pretty much all the characteristics the dnr offers. I can't remember where he bought them. rollo

I can't remember where he bought them. rollo Walmart carries a book of most lake maps in Ohio for 20 bucks. Each book is divided by region, Southern and Northern. Sucks for you guys in the middle. Lol Guess you'll have to get both. There pretty decent maps, they provide fairly accurate contour lines of depth, fish attractors, boat ramps, fishing piers, even past fish stockings, etc. It also gives you a page of literature on the lake such as history, fish found in each lake, baitstore numbers, etc. The book I have is called Southern Ohio Fishing Map Guide by Sportsmans connection. I like them so well I have two. One for the car, and one for my house. Rylan also has one we keep in the boat.

And yes there are two books like you said. I have always printed off the maps off the dnr, and keep them in a three ring binder. I like to be able to highlight potential areas to look at , and write notes at a low cost of computer paper I guess LOL.. Thanks for the post. They are very nice guides for sure! rollo

We only use it for maybe 2 dozen lakes, and it has 100 or more I think. I'd say that most people fish less than 10 different lakes so it would be pretty pointless to get the whole book. It does have some neat stuff in it though. I skim the pages every now and then to learn things about lakes that people mention on forums or blogs. Sometimes I use it to debate whether or not to try a new lake that's a good distance away. In fact when we came up for the spring gathering I used it to look at Dillion lake. Its pretty handy, cost effective...probably not.
