picking one up for free on saturday. now i'll be able to freeze some shad for when they get hard to get. my wife has been smart enough all these years to not let me put any in her freezer. It's a small one, 3 feet long, but just the right size to freeze some bait...

It helps. They work on gills too. I been using them for crappie just because they seem to swallow the hook fast on me.
Yeah, i had to refrain from setting the hook on them also. But i still give it a little jerk. I think, especially with gills, they hook themselves just from the pull on the bobber itself.

has anyone tried them fishing for bait? i picked up some size 6 and 10 and it seemed to help me a lot with hook up rate and taking less time to get enough bait

Very nice, especially for the first time. I would love to have one with the flathead by itself.
Fine job

Pretty cool. Never thought about taking release pics. Especially when someone gets soaked putting one back.

if you are gonna freeze bait, its best to try to keep it from getting freezer burn, you can add water to the freezer bag and cover the bait in. if freezing shad, use them when they aren't thawed completely, that helps combat the mushiness some. fresh is best, but frozen is the next best thing

Well, when deer creek isn't 30 feet over normal in the spring. I go early, do some crappie fishing then turn to channels in the afternoon when the sun starts getting the water warmed up. My favorite place to fish is in the shallow area of the lake where the creek dumps into the lake. Depending where you are at, it can be anywhere from three feet to about ten feet. I always get shad out of the creek at that time of year, and it can get hard to try to even fish with two poles.
The bottom is a mud/rock mixture
