Your best bet other than dip baits or stink baits is fresh cut shad, bluegills etc. I have heard people having luck with secret seven. But bigger pieces of cut bait will bring in bigger fish.

Good post Joey. If I ever fish the river this will help guide me to what I need.

Very good info. I never kept a log, thought about it once or twice, but that was it. Now, I have an app on my iPhone that collects most of the data that would be considered important. That excel spreadsheet is pretty nice. I may have to get to work on something like that before long

Dave, do you carry the black lights that you had on the boat when we went out with you at the gathering a couple of years ago? I am trying to get my dads boat set up and would love to get a hold of a couple of them.
Also will be getting some rod holders and maybe a kalex, they look good and ought to be just fine for channels.

Don't recall doing much good when the bullhead are biting. Think I would pack up and move.
That or use larger pieces of cut bait

If I get a hit like that, I usually turn the clicker off. It usually keeps going and is a smaller fish. Although I have had bigger fish do that, rarely though. I use 6500's, so not sure how much more tension a 7000 would have on the clicker. I've had two pound channels run em like they were hooked to a car.
Are you casting? If so, how tight is the spool tension set? It won't make the clicker stiffer, but the spool will be. Coupled with the clicker. That may not be helping. I loosen mine until the spool moves back and forth, then turn it until it quits moving back and forth. To where there is pretty much no resistance.
Rod angle has an affect on it also. If it is not pointing pretty much at the bait, then it will be harder for the fish to pull it also. they are fighting the rid as well as trying to pull the clicker.

I pretty much use circles any more. I even bought small ones for bait fishing.
