I'd like to have a tourney online for you guys. I'd like to hear some ideas on how you want it ran. I feel we have enough Bluecat guys to include blues also. Would you guys like to have teams or each for his own? I'd like to get it started May 1st so get your ideas in soon please.

kip, everyone for themselves, the team thing gets sorta hard to keep track of,require 2 pics person, fish, control item.and control item and fish on scales with a elgilable reading on the scale .could break it down to 3 classes channels, blues, flatheads, and then have a big fish pot,as far as entry 10-20 dollars for each catergory and 5-10 for big fish pot is just an idea

Just going to throw this out there, but you probably know this. Us Ohio guys can't compete with out of state guys when it comes to blue cats, and most guys in Ohio aren't within reach of a good blue cat population anyway. If I joined a tourney for blue cats for all members on the site I would be peeing in the wind, pouring water on a ducks back, insert other redneck phrase here. LOL.
I'd be interested in a single person tourney with all the same rules as last year. Maybe flathead and channels.....if the tourney fee were to cover all 3 species then I would fish for blues no doubt. I don't like the ideas of teams because I don't wanna disappoint my partner, especially when he's/she's got money on the line as well.
You would really have to gauge interests to see if there were enough people to have individual tourneys....but I don't think thats going to happen.
You could.........here we go....LOL. use a proportion of a fish weight compared to its state record. This would even the playing field for all fish. For example:
Ohio state record channel is 37.6lbs. If I were to catch a 15lb channel, i would then divide 15 by 37.6 to get .398. This would mean that this fish was almost a fourth of the state record. It would be similar to catching a 30lb flathead. (30/76.5 state record=.39) Or a 38lb blue cat (38/96lb state record = 39.5) The winner of each would then be the person who caught the fish that was largest in proportion to the state record.
It sounds complicated, but there could be a chart made to simplify things, so you wouldn't have to do the math.
Just an idea to keep things even.

Ok I elect you to make the Chart! LOL! I agree with an individual tourney also. My thoughts are everyone fishes solo each person chooses a species. Depending how many in each group decides the places we pay. If there is only a few Bluecat guys we will only pay out one place. For the other species i imagine there will be more entries and could possibly pay three spots. I think each person could weigh in 3 fish for the tourney but could always upgrade. also we could take a portion and pay big fish per species.

Here's kinda what it would look like, except I would go all the way to 100lbs for those blue guys on the James. Attached is a pdf of it as well. Just an idea. Here you can see that the proportions that I was talking about. The abbreviations OBCR stands for Ohio Blue Cat Record, OCCR Ohio Channel Cat Record, OFHR Ohio Flathead Record. The table simply shows the proportion of that weight in comparison to the current state record. Let me know if there's interest in a full version, and I'll put one together. It's simple once you get the idea of it, it just seems complicated at first.

Would there be a system for say the PA guys? To compare to the ohio waters There flathead record is only 48#s i believe. Also wouldnt it have to be done for all states that are signed up?

Yes I thought of that as well. Thats were things would get complicated. You would have to have a system for all states. OR you could simply do the calculation by hand. Its the fishes weight divided by the fishes current state record.

I fish alone so much it would be hard for me to get pics but I'm game. If you fish out of the state that you entered in. Then what. Lets say someone goes fishing again with Capt Hugh will that fish count or will it be calculated against the virgina record weight. This could get complicated.

Yea i definitely think that the fish should count toward the state that it comes from. Wouldn't take much for someone from PA to come up and get a state record flattie. LOL.

Any ideas of pics when fishing alone, I guess I will need to video myself and post videos and any ideas on how to bump off an entry and add a better updated entry. If bandwidth is not a problem each participate can have there own thread and keep all of their pics on there for the year that have control items and have each post numbered. Then at the end of the tourney submit your numbered entrys. This will be a good way to have albums for members and guest to view.

We usually have a 3 to 5 pound increase in order to upgrade a flat or blue entry and a 1 pound increase for channel. if its over a half pound we round up to the nearest pound on all fish.

Alabama State Records Catfish, Blue (b) 111 lbs 7/5/1996 Wheeler Reservoir Catfish, Channel 40 lbs 6/17/1967 Inland Lake Catfish, Flathead 80 lbs 6/22/1986 Alabama River,
The Blue Cat caught 3 weeks ago on Hoyt Reservoir 120 lbs has been certified as a state record but has not been updated in the books. I don't have a chance entering a contest with these types of records in my State I have not ever been able to find a photo of the record channel cat. It was caught 5 miles from my house. There has been alot of doubt concerning this entry. It was 5 months after I was born. There probably wasn't many cameras in Blount County back then.
