I love my St. Croixs, but my favorite rod is a custom 8'er from Black and Blue Rods. it has 11 stainless steel eyes, plenty of power, along with some tip. rollo

i like the quantum big cats but i have broke one and have a had a few friends break one each. seems to me that the rods that are snapping all have been the heavy action, my medium heavy rods have been in my arsenal for 5-6 years and are in great shape.

We have broke 7 big cats over the years, i have 1 old one that is still in good shape but the new ones break on us very quickly, 2 have been broke on fish and the rest setting the hook, but we run like a full back to get the slack out of the line and then set the hook ;D

my favorite rods are Grandt Rods All American Pro Series DR70C. These are a heavy action 7ft casting rod. All stainless guides. These are actually a saltwater rod, but they work great for cats. they are made in the USA and have a true lifetime warranty. They run about $160 but they are worth every penny.

Guys are reporting breaking big cats? I've had several of them and asked Berkley what was going on. They once changed blanks and didn't offer the stiff rods I wanted to set hooks on distant flathead. Then they changed eyes and my braid cut through the eyes till it caused sharp edges cutting lines. Then they put on eyes with ceramic inserts and the inserts would pop out. Now when I want an e-glass rod I always look carefully at all those things before buying. Ugly stik tigers fit the bill but are a little soft action for me. I am looking for one that is stiff on hookset but forgiving during a fight ;D I haven't found one like that yet so I compensate by adjusting my drags light enough to keep fish from tearing their own faces loose during the fight. Maybe an e-glass blank with double footed salt water guides would be the best option for me. I'm almost as happy with old glass rods with lots of good guides.

if you dont mind to spend the money you should really check out Grandt Rods. I use their All American Pro Series DR70C. Its a Heavy Action 7ft Casting rod. they do make them in 7ft 6in and 8ft as well. they have stainless guides, and the blanks are an Eglass/ Kevlar mix. they are practicly indestructable! These rods run about 165-185 bucks a piece which i know is pretty expensive. BUT, they also have a unconditional lifetime warranty. There is no other rod out there that has that kind of warranty. These rods are also all hand made in Illinois. Check em out! www.grandtrods.com
