I dunno how small of a creek, or waterway you are talking about. But, if it is a waterway or tributary, thats influenced by a larger system, the flatheads are most likely there if it supports most ,or all the species of gamefish the larger system holds. I really think smaller systems are overlooked.... rollo

a friend of mine noodles for turtles and on several occasions has ran into flatheads. he wades small creeks maybe 10 ft wide and 3-4 ft deep. i think it would be tough to successfully fish these areas and produce consistently.

this is how THEY do it. due to the belief that turtles go into their bank holes head first, people feel comfortable to walk around putting their hands in these holes feeling for the back edge of their shells. they are able to identify the rear of the turtle by the jagged edges of the back of the shell. once located they find the tail and pull the turtle out. seen several pictures of turtles they caught and he claims he has never been bit.
Turtle noodling is fun. I've always went in small creeks though. Ones that feed into the river are best. It's amazing how far up a creek a turtle will go. Miles from the creek or river.
And Varmint, don't listen to the losing a finger mindset. You keep your fingers together and you wanna hit them early in the day. If they grab ya, don't pull away. Let them let go of you...hahaha I know easier said than done

It's not the turtle that you have to worry about so much!!! It is the other things that might be in those holes like, Muskrat, Beaver and, Snakes that should worry you the most. Ain't nothing meaner than a pizzed of Beaver or Muskrat. The snakes on the otherhand...that is a whole new story!!!!!
The wheel in your head may be spinning but, your hamster tripped and fell off the wheel a lonnnng time ago, LOL!!!
