Hello, i came here today because im haveing a tough time chooseing a catfish rod. Im getting a abu Garcia 6500 c3 ambassador. But i do not know what rod to use. I fish for every kind, size of catfish and i need a rod to handle everything from 1lb channel catfish too 50 lb blue catfish. So i want a sensitive rod with a big back bone. Any ideas? Price range from $40-$80. Medium to medium heavy action
I ended up getting a tiger ugly stick medium action rated for 20 to 50lb line 7feet

I like 7 1/2 foot heavy rods i use 6 oz sinkers using 4 0z prolly medium rod be better

i use medium heavy, and heavy when throwing that size. works great, denalirods.com bottom feederz series. the medium heavy casts 6 oz weights with one pound baits as far as i want.

yep , medium heavy and heavy work best with 6 oz sinkers for me to.
I don't cast far fish straight down most of time slow troll off side or drift. picked up from watching Steve Douglas video's . it works where i fish.
my favorite rods i use most are Jim Moyer's e-cat rods the ones he made with birkley think i got them bout 98 from him , I dont know if he still got cat rods for sale or not or if he still kickin, haven't heard anything from Jim for years. last time i saw him was on the red river just below selkirk dam in Canada. he was fishing a tourny and me and wife was just cat fishing .
Fishing from bank I use Alvey rods and reels i can cast them farther with bait. seems farther the better bank fishing for blues.

I know he is no longer affiliated with berkley, because the new ecat rods are no longer his design and from what I have heard the quality really fell of when they went to the new design

after the affiliation with berkley Moyer called me one afternoon said I got some new Boss rods i had build you want to try one. I said sure do. A while After it arrived in mail he called again saying how you like the rod I said Jim if i had knew it was a 2 piece i wouldnt have ordered it . it got quite on phone . Then he said NO its not a 2 piece rod then think he could hear me gigglin on the phone so he said it got broke in shippin didnt it . yeah it did half in too , ok I send another and he did got another in the mail. it has a soft tip designed for circle hooks I still got it and use it all the time I like it too.
I dont know Jim Moyer and never had the pleasure of fishing with him other than like i said i bought 2 e-cat rods then met him one time on the red. and then on the phone when he sent the Boss rod . just the way i got using Moyer rods .

I don't know him either but everyone that does says nothing but good things. And those original ecat rods were and still are one of the best catfish rods ever made

If you liked the original E-Cats, you might want to keep an eye out for something new from Berkley... All I'm going to say is I'm VERY impressed.
