hope you get into em' next time ryan, shoulda brought some hotdogs? lol
I let a spread soak pretty good down there tonight and didn't get any good pull-downs.
the spillway was blowed out today, night n day compared to how it was saturday. Had to walk down to where the riprap ends on the parking lot side and there was a huge current break.......a smorgasborg of baitfish too.........you wouldn't beleive how thick the bait was in there....not just shad either little carp and good sized hognosed suckers. Bait was too easy i guess, shoulda took it to another spot......

I beleive Shimano 6500 would be one of the top shelf baitrunner spinning reels, although the price for a new one reflects that.......I have one and it has a very smooth drag and can throw big mono line, caught some big fish on it too.......
I don't know why anyone would be opposed to using spinning gear for a flathead unless that's just their personal preference.Penn, Shimano, Daiwa to name a few make fine big game spinning reels. I don't beleive a flathead cares whether you're using a spinning or casting reel before taking a bait......

This means the river boyz will begin catching flats a week or 2 before lake flathead fishermen.
robby, do the flatheads in the mdw lakes usually spawn after the muskingum river fish?

that a tough question to answer.........i've used them with their dorsal clipped and just regulaur and it's hard to tell a difference......
with a big bullhead it might not hurt to help slow him down and from getting hung up..........

this early in the year I would fish whole cutbaits over livebait.......size depending on what you can get....
i've caught and seen plenty of flatheads caught on cutbaits, even in the hot summer months, I beleive fresh cut (when possible) makes a huge difference.........I like em floppin on the hook fileted up both sides......lol I do like to use good livebaits closer to spawn and ofcourse postspawn and untill it starts to cool again.....but sometimes a fresh cutbait is hard to beat.......

thanks kip..............they said 13,000.....that seems good......70,000 I think would be way too many for the size of dillon.
It's mind blowing that there will be bluecats in the licking river all the way up to newark and however far they wanna run upstream....
They should be bigger then the channelcats in there in no time.........how many years until a bluecat is sexually mature?? I don't see anyreason why the 13,000 will won't succesfully spawn in the years to come and we will have a self sustaining bluecat population in our own backyard!
