Are different sizes needed for if you're drifting, trolling, or anchored? Also, do you guys ever use floats above your live baits to keep them from trying to hide under logs and rocks?

Good question Kip I was wondering the same thing. I plan on trying drifting this year and I've bought a bunch of peg floats ranging from 2-4" depending on what size bait I'm going to use. I plan on using the beads and small blade above the hook as well and see how it works.

I have a 14ft jon boat as well and my livewell is just under one of the seats. No idea how many gallons it is. We have a pump that we hook up to a battery to keep fish alive and we haven't had any die yet. We fished a channel cat tourney last year that was a 10 fish weigh in and the fish stayed alive fine.
I don't know what to do about fishing a tourney where we might catch a big flathead. Most of the time they say you can stringer them in the lip if you have to. Might be my only option if he can't fit under the seat. If you have any other ideas that'd be great.
Shad tank looks nice Sean. It's crazy when you put them in a square tank and literally sit there and watch them kill themselves by running into the walls lol.

Good to see fellow freaks helping each other out. I use this site more than all the others for that reason. Seems like a close bunch of guys all willing to help out. Can't wait to see the rig on the Show Your Ride thread once you got it all finished Kip.

Yea Kip I think I'm going to try to make a few fall fishing trips this year. Hunting public makes early bow season our best chance to get deer so we always hunt and never end up doing any fishing. Seems like fall is a hot time for flatheads for most people.

Anybody heading out last day? Snow flurries all weekend. I hunt public land and got 3 does this year but haven't seen much since gun season. I had a big 10pt in the area all early season but never saw him again once rut kicked in. I don't know if someone else got him or if he just rutted somewhere else. Maybe I'll get lucky and he'll return the last weekend. Good luck whoever's going out!

For the price they are hard to pass up. Some places charge that for the red/blue and white Nite Sticks and the pro is a lot better quality. Catfight rod is next on the list.

Just got my rods in today, the rest should be here by tomorrow. I definitely like the feel of the Nite Stick Pro rod. It's a pretty stout rod but definitely not a broomstick by any means. It has a nice tip on it and should work out great for where I fish mainly. I fish the Scioto around Columbus and catch flatheads in the range from 5-25lbs mainly, with occasionaly a few bigger. This rod seems perfect for fish in this range and I'm sure it can handle bigger ones if I get onto one. It has a nice cork handle with trigger and all stainless guides also which is a plus.
Got the gf the Lipstick rod and it's 7' Medium action 1pc. This rod is flimsy as a dipstick but has a good feeling backbone once you get down to the bottom cpl guides. It will definitely be a great channel cat rod and I might have to steal it from her a few times this year. The handle is a little shorter than I would like but it fits her well.

Yea I've never used any on my rods before either but I've always heard of people doing it. Wonder if it makes them slick or if it soaks in the cork?

Just put in an order to Dave. I've been wanting one of those Nite Stick Pro rods for a while, especially since Dave said the 7'6" models come with all stainless guides. Instead of convincing the girlfriend on why I needed another fishing rod I just went ahead and ordered her their Lipstick rod. I have a older Shimano TR 100-G that I don't use much anymore that is a little smaller in the hand and should work good for her.
Once the order comes in the only thing left to do is a tune up on the boat motor and make sure everything is working fine on it. Might even name it this year.
On another note, does anybody recommend anY type of cork sealant for their rod handles? Anything I could buy in stores?

Thanks for the info skyline. I plan on hitting some of the local lakes as soon as it warms up a little bit and try to get the hang of it. Seems like everybody does it a different way or uses a different rig. I'll have to take a day to see what works out best with my boat and what water I'm on.
I defintely will be hitting Buckeye Lake a few times because I'll be out for redemption in the tourney this year.
