Scott, if your looking for a heavier rod and your heart isn't set on a Bottom Dwellers, I have a pair of new Ripping Lips 8' H rods that this winter I bought on a whim. I would let them go for what I have in them $80.00 for the pair..

LOL I have no idea what I was thinking when I posted this... I blame it on the Percocet I was taking after my shoulder surgery

Has anyone tried brining the shad they freeze for later use? If so do you have any pointers? I ordered some brine today hoping to catch a few shad next weekend and give it a try.

Jordan, I tried Kahles, but clearly I was doing something wrong I had a lot of trouble with the point turning back into the goldfish, chub, or gill when I set the hook.

i like using sinker slides with River sinkers for all of my lake and river catfishing.. no sinkers bangin on my rods while traveling and the ability to easily change sinker sizes without having to retie is nice.
My 2nd question is about sinker sizes.. Myself, like everyone has a Plano box of sinkers in my Tackle bag. Depending where I am fishing I need 1oz all the way up to 6oz sinkers to hold. When I started I carrried 1,2,3,4,5,6oz sinkers... Anymore I carry 1,2,4oz sinkers combining sizes to get the desired weight. To me the plus is fewer sizes to mold and fewer to have carry... what about everyone else? Any and all input and thoughts would be appreciated.. fred

I am a fan of Daiichi hooks for all my catfishing, I mainly use D85Z red hooks, these are a dual action hook similar to Charlie Brown hooks. I prefer the Daiichi as they are available in smaller sizes for channel cat fishing as well as larger Flathead sizes. It would be nice to see some standardization of hook sizes between manufacturers, A D85Z 7/0 is the same size as a Charlie Brown 9/0 hook. The other Daiichi hook I am fond of is their D91 Super J. This hook comes in sizes up to 10/0 for large baits. Daiichi hooks are chemically sharpened and they actually discourage additional sharpening...
I know asking about hook preference is akin to poking a wasp nest with a stick and wondering if you are going to get stung..No one has ever accused me of being the sharpest knife in the drawer, sooooo has anyone had bad experiences with Daiichi? What is your preferred hook and why.. Any and all feed back is greatly appreciated.. fred

Jordan, let me know what you think of the rod when you get it, I am in the process of hotrodding a pair of old Penns for my dedicated river reels, I have been giving Monster Pro Rods a hard look to pair with them
