In the last week or so I have joined the website and have been making many posts about rods, reels, line, etc... A lot of you guys answered every question I had. I wanted to say that I got my new set ups. After everything you have told me and I have learned on this website, I went with penn squall 20 levelwinds, and ugly stik tigers. I spooled them with berkley big game 25 lb. mono. I love the set ups! You guys have been such a help in educating me. I really appreciate it and I just wanted to thank you.

I recently got a penn squall 20 levelwind and I bought berkley big game 25 lb. monofilament at the same time. What line would you run on the reel for fishing flatheads on the ohio river? It is spooled with the big game just temporarily. Thanks

I am from the wheeling area, Moundsville specifically and I was just wondering if any of you guys are from around here. I do a lot of fishing on the ohio river and may have ran into one of you before. Also, about what size weight keeps you stable in the ohio? Lately I've been throwing 4 ounce and they're still not enough to stay anchored on the bottom!

I have the 12s and 16s, they are my favorite reels, the bummer is Abu Garcia has discontinued the original blue and black Alphamars and replaced them with a cheaper red and black line counter version. eBay will be your friend to find a NIB 20. However for the price you might want to look at a Penn Squall or Fathom in the 20 series as well. Alphamar20s are $159.00 on EBay NIB, Penn Fathom 20s are also $159.00, Penn squall 20s are $110.00, I would take a long look at the Penns. Who is selling them on ebay?

Alphamars are nice reels I own more then a few 12s and 16s. Abu Garcia discontinued them, however they can still be found on EBay NIB. For the same money you might want consider a Penn Squall. I found alphamars on bottom dwellers for $100. Are those not the same?

Is the abu garcia alphamar 20 a good reel? I would be fishing from the bank for big flatheads and I might end up fishing for blues at some time in the near future. It would be paired with the ugly stik tiger m/h rod. Thanks

Here are some gear reviews from my website. thequestformonstercatfish.com/category/gear-reviews/I prefer Ande Monster Yellow mono for line in 40 or 50 pound. For reels, I would spend a little more and get the Penn Squall. Match those with one of the Catfight rods from Bottom Dwellers the Take Down or Knock Out and you will be able to handle any catfish you come in contact with. Thank you, I have changed my reel decision to the abu garcia alphamar. I would definitely go with the catfight rods except they aren't in stock so I am still gonna go with the ugly stik tiger m/h. If there are any problems with the alphamar please let me know it just seems like the correct reel for me so far.
